Miss Norma’s Epic Last Road Trip

By Marius Butas, 9:00 am on

When most people hear they have cancer, they tend to seek medical advice and treatment. However, 90-year-old Norma Bauerschmidt, who was diagnosed with uterine cancer, decided to do things differently. She embarked on an exciting road trip instead.

Earlier, Norma’s doctor had told her that he wasn’t sure if she would survive a surgery to remove the cancer from her uterus. Despite the diagnosis, Norma’s family and doctor gave her blessings for the trip. Norma set off on the journey with her son Tim, his wife Ramie, their trusty poodle Ringo, and an adventurous spirit.

She documented her exciting travels on her Facebook page “Driving Miss Norma.” Her first stop was South Dakota, where she saw the faces of past presidents carved into the granite wall of Mount Rushmore. One of the stops on her road trip was Roswell, New Mexico, where she enjoyed visiting the International UFO Museum and Research Center.

Norma visited many destinations in Wyoming, Colorado, Louisiana, Florida, and Arizona. Her Facebook page gained approximately 66,000 followers who were very interested in her adventures across the country.

Norma was an inspirational woman who chose to live life to the fullest after a cancer diagnosis. Not only did she set out on an exciting trip, but she also inspired others and started a discussion on the things people might want to do later in their lives. At age 90 she understood the value of life.

With a positive attitude and support from her family, Norma was able to lead an active and joyful life.
